In Rajasthan, misbehavior with tourists is becoming a punishable offense

The bill amends the Rajasthan Tourism Trade (Facilitation and Regulation) Act, 2010, by inserting a new Section 27-A.

Jaipur: Tourist misbehavior will now constitute a cognizable offense in Rajasthan, and a non-bailable one if repeated.
On Monday night, the state legislature passed an amendment bill to add a new provision 27-A to the Rajasthan Tourism Trade (Facilitation and Regulation) Act, 2010.

The Rajasthan Tourism Trade (Facilitation and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2021 was approved by voice vote in the parliament.

Tourism is one of Rajasthan's most important businesses, with thousands of domestic and foreign visitors visiting each year.

However, visitors frequently encounter issues as a result of touts, illicit merchants, and other unpleasant aspects.

Dotasra stated that the state government established police stations in Jaipur and Udaipur to combat touting and that charges were filed and challans were issued in 2016.

However, the accused moved to the High Court, which dismissed an FIR in January 2017 on the basis that the acts were not expressly listed as cognizable in the Act. As a result, he stated, the changes have been made.

Sanjay Kaushik, secretary of the Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators, welcomed the development and stated that rigorous action against touts, known as lapkas in a local language, is required to make tourists feel comfortable.

“Touting activities not only annoy tourists but also damage the industry's image. Lapkas are mostly a concern in large towns like as Jaipur and Udaipur, according to Kaushik.
